How leadership is linked to success
What is considered success and how to achieve it? Piles of papers have been written on this subject - from primitive articles by network marketing leaders, where success comes down to the number of banknotes, to thick academic publications, where broad lists of success preconditions have been deduced in an almost scientific way.
Attention deserves a concise, capacious and simple formula for success, which was brought out by business coach Radislav Gandapas:
A successful person can be considered one who has an excess (surplus) of four vital resources - time, energy, status, money.
A scarcity in at least one of the resources suggests that success has not yet been achieved. Moreover, the selected sequence is not accidental:
An individual's free time is obtained as a result of desire.
Free energy - as a result of working on yourself.
Excess status - as a result of work on oneself and the environment.
And money - as a result of skillful use of the first three resources.
And here is the “status" - this is leadership. Without leadership - even the most insignificant, at least in some ways, but still leadership - a surplus of status is impossible, and hence success as such.
What is the difference between management and leadership
There is an opinion that the terms “management” and “leadership” are identical. Once a manager is a leader, and once a leader, then a priori is already a leader. But this is not so. Each concept is based on completely different functions.
“Management is the science of doing things right. Leadership is the science of doing the right thing, ”says Peter Drucker, one of the most influential management theorists of the 20th century.
It is a mistake to use the term “leadership” in relation to people at the very top of the managerial hierarchy. It is also called “management” of people at a lower level in the same organization, and all the rest - personnel, specialists and employees.
In today's world, leadership is required from almost everyone and everyone, regardless of which professional group they are in. Leadership is not a set of characteristics. Leadership is a style of behavior.
Can everyone be leaders
In fact, we can all basically be leaders. It’s like every acorn in principle an oak. But oak and “basically” oak are slightly different things. In order for an acorn to become an oak, it needs to fall into the right soil. Having fallen, it is necessary that his pig does not eat, so that the rain and the sun work in the required mode, so that the lawn mower does not mow it.
So the man - you have to get into the right environment. And he will blossom. But not everyone knows what “their” environment is and where to look for it. In addition, there is also a “fate factor” - when a person was born at the wrong time and in the wrong place.
But! It is safe to say that in that civilization in which we were born, every healthy individual was tested for leadership at least once in his life. Each one! In childhood, some leaders flourished, in adolescence - others, in youth - third, in the army - fourth, in high school - fifth and so on. And only a few carried their leadership from the nursery to adulthood, because they were able to stay in the shoes of the leader.
Where does leadership begin?
Leadership begins with good blood chemistry, which gives a surplus of energy, and then there follows a search for an idea or even a super idea where this surplus can be drained.
Energy without an idea leads to the effects of “A mad dog is seven kilometers away” and “A fool with initiative is more dangerous than a thief.” And the mass of ideas in the head without energy is reflected in the proverb “A fool riches with thought.”
There should be a certain “mechanism” between the idea and energy, which will lead to a balance between these two factors and will be useful in three areas of human activity:
usefulness for oneself;
utility for the "earth" (society);
usefulness for “heaven” (charitable value).
Ideas covering all three types of utility at the same time have the most elusive competitive advantages. Accordingly, this is the key to long-term leadership. Otherwise, leadership is easy to lose.
The moment of loss of leadership
At the time of the loss of leadership, few people pay attention, but it is a consequence. And the reason for it is either a change in the environment, or abuse of a leader in relation to the environment.
When there is a lack of use, then the King’s retinue more than compensates for it with joy. But when the "king" begins to abuse, then a critical mass of enemies is gradually gaining. Which, in the end, leads to mass dashes of the “retinue” to another “king”.
How to distinguish a pseudo-leader from a true leader
There are two characteristics that help to see the pseudo-leader leader behind the screen.
1. According to the concept of the leader
A true leader professes the concept of a creator, not the concept of a leader. And therefore, he does not consider it necessary to protect his territory from attacks by other leaders. He (the leader) knows that whoever encroaches on his territory, authority or initiative will receive only a temporary victory. Over time, everything will return to square one.
